We Have Always Lived In the Castle (2019)
Remember the Shirley Jackson short story, The Lottery? I was in the play version of it in the eighth grade and the whole drama class got to throw gray foam stage rocks at the poor girl who played Mrs. Hutchison.
When the rocks bounced off our victim we giggled and threw them harder. It’s not as sadistic as it sounds.
Jackson seemed to like angry mobs going after misfits. We Have Always Lived In the Castle is another iteration of that theme, with the film adaptation adding a heavy dash of Stepford Wives and Wes Anderson.
