Moonfall (2022)
Hollywood seems to love knocking things off course, and they’re at it again with Moonfall. Directed by Roland Emmerich, it’s chock full of both sci-fi and Emmerich archetypes. Oh muh word.
Things open in 2011, when a flight crew is repairing a satellite and listening to “Africa” by Toto while they debate whether the rains in Africa are blessed or missed. Then they get hit by a flying cloud of debris and one of the crew members gets blasted away.
Meanwhile, another one, Brian, manages to get back on board the shuttle, which is spinning wildly while the pilot, Jocinda floats around unconscious. Improbably, Brian gets blamed for the accident and gets court-martialed, divorced, and disgraced. With one thing and another, ten years pass.
